Nowgong Girls' College is a premiere institution of higher education for women in central Assam . It has been continuing its glorious journey since 12'h September 1962. Established as Nowgong Women's College, this institution was later named as Lal Chand Todi Girls' College and finally in 1968 it was renamed as Nowgong Girls' College. It has travelled a long way imparting higher education to the aspiring girls students of Nagaon and adjoining districts. The college is affiliated to Gauhati University and is included under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956.The college owes its existence to the inspired pioneering works and foresightedness of its prime mover and guiding spirit Late Mahesh Chandra Dev Goswami (1917-1989), the founder principal and eminent educationist of Assam . Since its inception, the college has flourished under the competent administra tion and able leadership of the following Principals: Late Mahesh Chandra Dev Goswami (1962-80), Late Dr.Ratna Kanta Barua (1982-84), Sri BimalKumar Bora ( 1984-97), Sri Apurba Sarma ( 1997-2002)and Dr.Ajanta Dutta Bordoloi (2004- 2015) .At present,Gautam Kr.Goswami is the Principal-in-Charge of the college.

The spraw ling campus of Nowgong Girls' College is on the bank of the sereneKolong River covering an area of 4.297 acres.Away from the din and bustle of the town,the green surroundings and the fresh breeze from Kolong provide an ideal ambience for academic pursuance. The campus comprises of class room buildings, three hostels, a two storeyed Library with spacious reading rooms, an Administrative Block, a Seminar Hall, an Auditorium, two well equipped Computer Centres, an Examination Hall, an Indoor Stadium and a Post Office. Construction of a new administrative building is going on with the financialassistance from the Government of Assam.
