The discipline of Home Science is centred round the family ecosystem and is aimed at achieving an improved system of living through employing various principles of humanities and science. As Home Science can be pursued by both Arts and Science students, studying it in the under-graduate level offers an interesting plethora of further studies and career options. The department itself is a multidisciplinary which comprises 5 branches including 1.Food Science and Nutrition,2.Human Development and Family Studies,3.Textile and Apparel Designing, 4.Resource Management and Consumer Science and 5.Extension and Communication Management.The activities of the department are very relevant in the perspective of New Education Policy which emphasizes on Skill Enhancement.
Home Science was introduced in NGC in the year 2012 in the HS level and in 2014 in the undergraduate level. The Department offers only general course to the students. In the last academic year a workshop on textile designing, jewellery making and fabric painting was conducted with the help of invited resource persons.
