Zoology is the branch of biology that studies the animal kingdom, including the structure, physiology, genetics, biochemistry, embryology, evolution, classification, habits and distribution of all animals, both living and extinct and how they interact with their ecosystem. Zoologists also research the development of animal diseases and are therefore also known as animal scientists or animal biologists. Studying Zoology enables students to equip themselves in the management of nature and of Earth's biodiversity with the aim of protecting species, their habitats, and ecosystems from excessive rates of extinction and the erosion of biotic interactions.
The Department of Zoology of NGC is a part of the newly established Science Faculty of the College and has become an integral part of the Institution's academic realm. Apart from imparting regular curriculum-based classes, the Department has organized field trips to many national parks. sanctuaries and reserve forests to provide field-based learning experience to its students. The Department has well-equipped laboratories and museums along with dedicated classroom infrastructure with ICT facilities for undertaking teaching-learning activities.
