Nowgong Girls’ College is a premier institute of women’s education located in the Nagaon district of Assam, India. The College is affiliated to the Gauhati University and was re-accredited at A Grade by the NAAC in its 2nd assessment cycle. The College caters to the educational needs of more than 2000 students from Assam and beyond.
The Department of Geography, Nowgong Girls’ College was established along with the College in 1962. Since its inception, the Department has been rendering yeoman’s service in catering to the need of studying Geography of girl students of central Assam and beyond. At present, the Department has 6 full time faculty members and about 300 students in the Post Graduate, Under-Graduate and Higher Secondary levels. The department has research linkages with the Departments of Geography of Gauhati University, Osaka Gakuin University (Japan) and Nara Women\'s University (Japan). The department is at the forefront of research in remote sensing and GIS sciences, fluvial geomorphology, livelihood and gender issues and wildlife ecology. It has a vibrant culture of organizing field trips, seminars, workshops, and talks etc.
