Dear parents, students and well-wishers, heartiest welcome to Nowgong Girls’ College, the pioneering educational institute catering to the higher educational needs of the girl students. The college serves for the students of Nagaon and its neighbouring districts, i.e., Marigaon, Karbi Anglong, North Cachar Hills, Golaghat, etc. From a very humble beginning in 1962, the college has flourished to imparting both post-graduate and undergraduate level of education keeping in mind its very objective – “Empowering women through education and undertaking initiatives for gender neutral society”. “Charaiveti.. Charaiveti” meaning “March on.. March on” has been adopted as the vital mantra of the college since its very inception.We feel bliss to proclaim that by marching steadily Nowgong Girls’ College has now grown enough to have offered 18 subjects under the faculties of both Arts and Science. Moreover,it also offers Masters programme in Assamese and Geography. The highly qualified,dedicated, dynamic and hard-working faculty and non-teaching staff are the asset of the college which will, for sure, lead further academic development of the college in the coming years.

Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. The great African leader believed that education is the key to unlocking a better future for humanity. In other words, education is the key to eliminate gender inequality, reduce poverty and thus fostering world peace. In a knowledge economy, education is an important currency through which the nations maintain economic sustainability,competitiveness and global prosperity. Thus, education is a lifelong learning process which is not only an act of acquiring knowledge but learning a skill to lead life and forming one’s personality.

The New Education Policy 2020 proclaims that education is fundamental for achieving full human potential, developing an equitable and just society, and promoting national development. With the growing Artificial Intelligence (AI) it is apprehended that many unskilled jobs worldwide will be taken over by the machine however, the need for skilled labour will never be decimated. It is greatly realised that with the much talked about global problem of climate change and rapid depletion of the scarce natural resources, there will be a sizeable shift in how we meet the world’s energy, water and sanitation need of the growing population. At a time when India fixes its goal of transforming itself into a developed nation there will be an ever-growing need for the skilled labour, particularly in the field of biology, chemistry, physics, climate science, economics, humanities and art. An investment in education is, thus, a very crucial investment.

Dear well-wishers, Nowgong Girls’ College has been contributing for last sixty years towards building a just society by inculcating the much-needed education to the girl child and it will also be striving hard to facilitate the process of transforming India into a global knowledge superpower. The college promises to devote all its scanty but precious resources to create a vibrant campus environment in order to encourage the students to participate in various extra and co-curricular activities besides the regular courses offered by its parent university. This indeed will instill in students a sense of involvement and belongingness.

Nowgong Girls’ College believes that the students are in the core of the educational ecosystem and therefore, it has been constantly arranging to build a student-centric ecosystem.

It makes us feel proud in announcing that Nowgong Girls’ College has been recently accredited at A Grade by the NAAC in its 3rd cycle in the year 2023. We believe in teamwork and thus can assert that the Nowgong Girls’ College community will not rest here but will ‘March’ for new excellence in the coming years with novel and robust zeal.

I would like to mention Henry Ford here, who is quoted as saying “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young”. We, at Nowgong Girls’ College, try to indoctrinate a value system where our students will never grow old in life. I welcome and wish a very good luck to the students to remain young.
